Sturgis is located in St. Joseph County, Michigan and is bordered to the south by Indiana and the Indiana Toll Road. It is the largest city in the county with a population of over 11,000. The Sturgis Department of Public Safety employs a staff of 19 sworn police officers, 10  full time Firefighters/EMT's, 4 full time Firefighter/Paramedics and 4 administrative assistants. This includes two full time Detectives, Fire Marshall, School Resource Officer and an Animal Control/Code Enforcement Officer.  The department also has an on-call fire division that assist full time staff. Members of the Sturgis Department of Public Safety  serve on a variety of multi-jurisdictional teams which include the 5th District Technical Rescue Team,  St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force and the Special Response Team for tactical entries.
